About The Role

Academy Automotive Technician | Circa £34,700 + excellent benefits Permanent On-site

The future of collision repair is evolving and as the technologies used in automotive body repair advance, we play an industry leading role in training the automotive repair and insurance industries. Our state-of-the-art automotive training academy is uniquely positioned to provide training and continuous professional development for both apprentices at the start of their career, or technicians and engineers looking to update their skills.

As an Automotive Technician in our Academy, you’ll be part of a high-performing supportive team, working within a modern training environment using the latest vehicles, technology and equipment. You’ll be responsible for supporting the Technical Trainers with preparation and facilitation of our training programmes, and the maintenance of vehicles and equipment to uphold our high standards of quality and service.

Your mission

  • Manage the movement of resources (cars / tools and equipment / furniture) to enable efficient and effective training delivery.
  • Assist Trainers in course preparation activity ensuring all course resources and materials are in the correct place at the required time to run the course effectively.
  • Supporting training through observation and invigilation, working under the direction and supervision of the technical training team and supporting our delegates
  • Supporting the maintenance of facilities and resources ensuring equipment and stored goods remain in good condition
  • Carrying out maintenance and minor repairs of vehicles and equipment
  • Liaising with the procurement department to ensure stock is maintained and replenished as necessary
Skills & experience that will set you up for success in this role:
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in the automotive repair sector, focused on vehicle body repair/maintenance supported by a relevant motor industry qualification in MET or Light Vehicle.
  • Pro-active approach to tasks, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Good communication skills, and the ability to develop good working relationships
  • Computer literate, with proficient use of MS Word and Excel
  • A DBS check will be required and processed during onboarding for this role.

When we work

Our standard working hours are 8:30 - 16:45 Monday - Thursday, 8:30 - 16:00 Fridays (talk to us about flexible working if this doesn’t quite suit you!)

This role is based on-site at our Automotive Training Academy in Thatcham, Berkshire.

At the cutting edge of automotive research in the UK, Thatcham Research has a unique role in shaping the design of new vehicles and influencing ever higher standards of safety, security and repair.

With an on-site Crash Laboratory, Repair Technology Centre, Training Academy and Crime Lab, our research expertise is driving some of the very latest automotive developments in technology, materials and standards in this fast moving and highly technical industry. Our active safety track site is one of the leading accredited Euro NCAP testing facilities, trialling and assessing the very latest developments in vehicle safety and assistance technologies.
