Here at Thatcham Research we’re looking for an inquisitive Research Engineer to join our engineering research team on a full time, permanent basis. Join us as a Senior Research engineer and you’ll be responsible for leading and delivering high profile engineering research projects that shape the future requirements for active safety and collision avoidance. Projects will incorporate all aspects of active safety features including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane support systems and driver monitoring system technologies. Your knowledge will also support our research into safety assurance for automated driving.

Knowledge and practical experience of active safety regulations, consumer testing and rating schemes, along with their development would be a distinct advantage, as would transferable skills from other related transport safety industries.

As a Senior Research Engineer your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Researching and interpreting the latest developments and proposals in vehicle safety and automation
  • Providing key research, engineering and technical input to research projects developing assessment regimes for the purposes of controlling and guiding the development of future active safety and automated driving technology
  • Authoring presentations and technical reports to illustrate research status and outcomes, to achieve widespread understanding of our research topics and strategy
  • Communicating and presenting research findings to inform colleagues and influence stakeholders

As a Senor Research Engineer your skills and experience will include:

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline such as Engineering, Science, Robotics or equivalent experience
  • A good understanding of vehicle active safety and automation technologies (features and functionality, operation and limitations) and associated testing methods
  • Researching and liaising with peers and stakeholders to gather information, interpreting the data to identify key features, trends and outliers
  • Excellent research and project management skills
  • Analysing research findings, developing and authoring creative and robust technical proposals and presenting them so to influence stakeholders

Salary: Circa £52,000 dependent on skills & experience, plus competitive benefits package which includes a 10% non-contributory pension, sick pay, competitive annual leave increasing with length of service, TechScheme Vouchers, plus more!

Location: Thatcham, Berkshire

Working Hours: 8.30 - 16.30 Monday - Thursday and 8.30 - 15.45 Fridays
