About The Role

Do you have a passion for automotive and would like to join an industry leader in the field of automotive research? Perhaps you are a talented automotive engineer or motor insurance professional, excited by an opportunity to play a key role in influencing new regulatory safety frameworks? If so, then we could have just the position for you.

Due to increasing volumes of research projects, we have created a new opportunity for a technically minded individual to join our Insurance Research team on a full time, permanent basis. As Lead Research Engineer, you will be responsible for undertaking investigative research into insurance and vehicle data and draw on vehicle technical understanding and knowledge to generate industry, regulatory and cross industry project insights and outputs.

With research projects having a primary focus on accidentology, biomechanical and vehicle engineering research, the successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of vehicle technology, most likely gained within an engineering research, insurance, or statistical environment.

As a Lead Research Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Planning, executing, and reporting complex and varied research projects, delivering findings to stakeholders and peers
  • Authoring and supporting the creation of technical reports to communicate research status and outcomes to stakeholders
  • Utilising engineering or subject matter expertise of vehicles and data processed by the data function, to apply insight for our insurer members
  • Continuous improvement of knowledge, methods, and processes to improve research developments and efficiency with the goal of increased research capacity and robustness
  • Record keeping and reporting in support of quality control of research tasks and projects
  • Creating and delivering presentations on claim trends, insurer data, and value modelling to help inform stakeholder strategy

As a Lead Research Engineer your skills and experience will include: 

  • Qualified to degree level in an Engineering or Statistical subject, or equivalent experience
  • A strong understanding of statistics and analysis with experience using statistical and analytical methods for forecasting
  • Background in automotive engineering or significant knowledge of motor vehicles including latest technologies
  • Multi-media research skills
  • Ability to draw out insights from analysis and knowledge sources and articulate it in ways to inform and advise
  • Strong IT skills (MS products, statistical software/code)
  • Technical report writing skills

Salary: Based on skills/experience + competitive benefits package, including a 10% non-contributory pension scheme

Location: Thatcham, Berkshire (remote working during UK lockdown)

Working Hours: 8.30 - 16.30 Monday - Thursday and 8.30 - 15.45 Fridays
